1. Commercial ART vs Personal ART
What’s the difference between both. 🤔
I heard the following definition in a podcast and it was interesting.
Commercial art – One that is made with OTHERS in mind.
Personal Art – One that is Made for Oneself.
Neither is good nor bad. But each has its upsides and downsides.
The thing with Commercial art is that it’s GENERIC. 🤷♂️
It’s created based on what you “Think” others like. What’s comes out is a combo of little things everyone likes and nothing that someone LOVES.
The thing with personal art is its SIMPLICITY.
‘Make something YOU absolutely Love and there are tons of people like you who will come to appreciate its depth’.
2. Art from Last Week
The Flood – The idea of it exists in all major myths and religions. There’s a great flood and there’s always some supernatural entity that comes to the rescue. Such is one of the stories of ‘Matsya Avatar’ in the Hindu religion, where lord Vishnu takes the form of a fish to reel those who are drowning into his boat.
MATSYA – That’s the name of this piece. 🐟
Created an illustration after a long time. Been working on so many things that I can’t share yet.
And I’ve yet to finish the manga. The last 5 pages are what’s left. Looking forward to finishing it in a couple of weeks and getting the 40 pg comic book printed.
Let’s see where this all leads to.
3. Favourite Quote of the Week
“The best art divides the audience. If everyone likes it, you probably haven’t gone far enough.”
— Rick Rubin.
That’s it for this week folks.
See you in the next one 🙂
Best
Kesh.
