1. Drawing of the Week
Here’s a little drawing I did from the Drawing Desk. 👇
I’ve been experimenting with more realistic styles of drawing Characters and this is the first step in that direction. 👣
I’m in the process of coloring it now – will share the results later.
2. How to Draw like me?
How do you go about learning to draw from Scratch to making comics and animation? 🤔
I put out a detailed podcast on this but here’s a quick 2 min summary 📝
1. First – Define the Objective – the kind of art you want to do – which is Stylised character design for Comics and animation.
2. Two – Divide your Learning Process into Three phases –
• Foundation – Where you master the fundamentals of drawing.
• Design – Where you learn the skill of human character design.
• Creation– Where you learn Imaginative and Stylised drawing – and do a Project.
3. Here’s a list of Skills you need to focus on learning for each levels
🏗️ Foundation
• Lines and shapes.
• Gesture/flow.
• Forms and perspective.
• Light and shadow.
• Measuring and proportions.
✍️ Design
• Character Design Principles.
• Simple Head Anatomy.
• Simple Body Anatomy.
• Environment and Prop Design.
🧠 Creation
• Imaginative Drawing.
• Stylised drawing Principles.
• Creating a Project.
That’s it. Focus on learning these skills one at a time and you’ll be fine.
Use free tutorials online (or drawing camp If you want to save time).
Regardless, this is how I Learned drawing. You can do it too.
3. Favourite Quote of the Week
“I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual”.
– Henry David Thoreau
