1. 3 Steps to Draw Everything
When I started to learn drawing seriously, I started looking up specific tutorials on how to draw things like Forms, Perspective, Gesture and Anatomy.
And I thought that would help me.
It did, but it mostly didn’t.
Because I lacked a cohesive framework that binds this all together. And that is when I focused on learning “how to draw everything?”
Is there a process which I can use repeatedly to learn and draw anything and everything I want?
And turns out there is one…
Here’s the 3 Step Process:
SEE – Observe the things you want to draw. You look for,
1. The Core Shapes the subject is made of.
2. The Proportion of the shapes which is a fancy way of saying measurements.
3. What are the forms that are there in this?
4. What is FLOW/FORCE of this drawing?
Draw
1. Use a loose gesture, Line of Action to capture the base emotion of the drawing.
2. Place the Basic Shapes in the right proportions.
3. Build the Forms of the character using FORMS.
4. Add Values (aka shading) to bring more depth.
Stylise:
1. Push pull, exaggerate, distort, modify each of the elements that you did before to “stylise” your drawing.
2. This step can be avoided if you are not into stylised drawings.
2. The Practical Example
Here’s a look into the practicality of the process.
3. Favourite Quote of the Week
“Heads you win, Tails you don’t lose much”
– Mohnish Pabrai’, an investor, explaining his approach to investing in things with huge upside, and minimal downside.
That’s it for this week folks!
See you in the next one 🙂
Best,
Kesh.
