DON’T Believe this Myth

1. Talkers Block

“Writers Block is a myth”

Says Seth Godin, the multiple best-selling author of 19+ books and a seasoned entrepreneur.

When people come up to him and say that they have “writers block”,

He says:

“Nobody has ‘talkers block'”

It’s not like you are blocked from speaking today. 🤷

So, If you can talk, you can write.

Same goes with art.

If you can SEE. You can DRAW. ✍️

2. Why are you blocked?

According to Seth,

The real problem as to why people feel “BLOCKED” is not that they have some inherent wall preventing them from making stuff. 🧱

It’s just that they are not able to make anything NOW,

That will meet their “High Standards”.

• Award winning producer Rick Rubin often tells his artists, songwriters to “write 2 lines” when they feel stuck writing.

• Author Tim Ferris would often aim to write “2 Shitty Pages/day” when writing his best-selling books.

• When Kesh (yours truly) felt stuck writing today’s newsletter, he asked himself “what do I normally talk about, when I can’t write” 😬 (and came up with this letter)

The idea is this:

Forget your Standards. 🙅
Do the work.

You don’t raise to the level of your Standards, you fall to the level of your systems. 🧠

3. Favourite Quote of the Week

“Write.

People with writer’s block don’t have a problem typing. They have a problem living with bad writing, imperfect writing, writing that might expose something that they fear.

The best way to address this isn’t to wait to be perfect. Because if you wait, you’ll never get there.

The best way to deal with it is to write, and to realize that your bad writing isn’t fatal.

Like all skills, we improve with practice and with feedback”

– Seth Godin

That’s it for this week folks.
See you in the next one 🙂

Best
Kesh.
