Daily Routine for Artists

1. The Artist Routine

The Word Routine comes from the French word ‘Route’, which translates to ‘Road’ or ‘the way’

Routine is the way of an artist.

It’s needed in an artist.

Why? 🤔

Because Art is hard and unpredictable.

It’s has an element of chaos to it.

So when you as an individual approach chaos, you need to be organized or ‘put together’ so you don’t break in the process of making art. 💥

Thus, you need a way. 🛣️

• A System.
• A Process.
• A Routine.

To make art, to create or even to do other things in life. It Creates a much needed structure in life that alleviates uncertainty and anxiety.

I’ve been locking myself into a routine I genuinely enjoy and life has been really good. (Hope it doesn’t go to 💩 Now that i talk about it. Happens all the time)

The book ‘Daily Rituals’ by Mason Currey talks about the routines of various different thinkers, artists and individuals from DaVinci to Darwin.

A highly recommended read. 📕

So that one can learn, test and implement various strategies from these folks into their own routine.

2. My Daily Routine

My Daily Routine is optimized for the following:

• Having Peaceful slow mornings.
• Doing 3-4 hours of deep work.
• Time for Physical activity (walking) and Exercise.
• Good Eating.
• Time with Loved ones.
• Sleep.
• Late night TV to de-stress.

Here’s my Daily Routine 👇

☀️ Wake up between 7-8 A.M.
🧘 Brush, Meditate for 3-8mins (I use ‘Medito’)
✍️ Journal (I write 3 things I’m grateful for, My 3 goals, My Daily task + Yesterday’s Review)
🚶 Go for a Walk – 10-40mins (listen to podcast)
🚿 Shower and Breakfast
⌛ 10 A.M. – Work BLOCK 1 (50mins work, rest 30mins)
🍔 Break – Lunch & walk
🚗 Go to Studio (5 min commute)
⌛ 2 P.M. – Work Block 2 (50mins of work)
💌 Admin work, emails, Video reviews, meetings
😌 4 P.M./5 P.M. – Close work, head home
📱 Rest for a while, use phone.
🏋️ 6 P.M. – Workout
🥗 Eat dinner, TV, ❤️ Time
🚶 10 min walk – Post dinner
😴 Sleep by 11.45 P.M.

Took a while to land on one I like. And I really like this one.

3. Favourite Quote of the Week

“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret to your success is found in your daily routine.”

– John C Maxwell

That’s it for this week folks!
See you in the next one 🙂

Best,
Kesh.
