1) The Importance of Drawing Boxes?
Did you know that you can literally draw anything you want if you learn the draw boxes?
Yeah. Boxes.

See, drawing is all about sculpting. Except with a pencil.
You draw a bunch of lines on paper and find your way to the final drawing.
And most drawings are made of the BIG 5 Forms (the clay that makes the sculpture)
These forms put together makes the things you want to draw.

So how do you draw these forms?
With boxes.
Most of the BIG 5 Forms can be drawn simply by cutting down the boxes, thus learning the art of Drawing boxes is a fantastic way to master drawing.
Master drawing boxes = Learn to draw everything.
But here’s the problem
– Drawing boxes is Boring.
Bland boxes drawn 100s of times in the name of practice might make my heart bleed.
So here’s how I’m making it fun.
2) The Box Head Exercise
It’s Pretty simple.
Step 1 – Draw a Box.
Step 2 – Draw a head or Face on top of the Box.

The only rule is – Don’t change the base form of the box too much but you are free to add headwear (like hair and hats)
Why this works?

This exercise particularly trains your Brian to draw proper boxes but also introduces you to drawing heads.
Your typical head is nothing but a Carved Out Box.

And this exercise introduces you to that world while at the same time – makes you practice the Core fundamentals of Drawing.
(lines and perspective)
And the fun part – it’s a great creative exercise that increases your problem solving skills of having to fit a face within a box (lol)

So give this…… “Out of the box” exercise of Drawing within a box… A try 😉
3) Favourite Quote of the Week
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness”
– Oscar Wilde
That’s it for this week folks!
See you in the next one 🙂
