I used to believe in the myth of the “Starving Artist”.
Which basically says that there’s “No money in art” 💸
or you’ll have to follow the path of a doctor, lawyer, engineer or a finance bro to make money.
NOPE. 😤
• Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) has a net worth of $50m.
• Matt Groening (The Simpsons) is worth $600m
• Frank Miller (Sin City, 300) is worth $40m
• Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball) is worth $50m
• Eichiro Oda (One piece) is at $200m plus.
This is only in the industries of Comics, manga, animation and film. There’s so many other art based industries like toys, books, merch and IPs.
There IS money in Art if you know how to play the game right. 😌
And this is the game that I’ve learned.
The Art Money Game
”I don’t make movies to make money. I make money to make movies.”
– Walt Disney
The game you need to play to make the most money in art is SERVICE.
You need to ask yourself –
“How can I serve the most amount of people, in the most valuable way possible?”
Money making is a game of ‘Give and take’. 🔁
You need to give something to get something back.
And that means you need to SOLVE PROBLEMS for other people.
All the creators I mentioned above provide massive entertainment and story value to people. Thus people spend money to consume their art.
Like that, you need to think:
• What industry can I provide the most value in?
• Is it Books, Animations, education, merch or toys?
• Am I picking an industry with scalability? (I.e I get more for the work I put in)
• What kind of people can I serve the most?
• How do I reach these people?
• What Art based product or service can I create?
• What specific problems does it solve?
• Do I have the skills to create that product or service?
• How can I acquire those skills?
This all answers the question of “How do you Serve?” 💪
Service is the name of the game.
Money is about give and take.
And Good Karma is about giving more that you take.
So, learn to play the right game, win good prizes.
Hope this helps 🙂

That’s the 4th lesson I’ve learned in the last 10 years,
Tomorrow, I share the Last and most important one of all,
Which is: Most artists, are NOT that Talented.
Best,
Kesh.

P.S. If you want to develop the skills of an artist to be able to do all these, ‘Drawing camp’ is the place – 3 Days to go till the Black Friday offer ends 😉 🔥
