6 Reasons Why I Draw Daily?

6 Reasons for Drawing Daily

I have been drawing everyday for the last 365 days.

And these are my 6 personal reasons as to why I draw daily.

Before we get in: ‘Drawdaily365‘ – My 365 Day Daily Drawing Program to Improve your skills and Form a Drawing Habit in 10 Mins/day – enrollment closes in 4 Days. Check it out here.

Now, onto the reasons...

1. To Gain Personal Agency through Drawing

I care less about what other people think and do what I want to do.

 Because, whenever I sit down to draw something, it’s an opportunity for me to say;

“I’m gonna make a drawing for myself, and not for others”

This choice is a Routine that makes me care less about external validation and focus more on basing my actions on internal motivations.

Thus – creating ‘Personal Agency’. Which is;

“The ability to make decisions and actions that are in line with one’s own goals and desire”

As opposed to making something in line with other people’s wants and Goals.

2. To have a better Mindset

The Act of drawing daily has forced me to think better and have better mindsets for life.

Ex – I used to have an “all or nothing mindset” where I do things to the max or don’t do it at all if I see little Imperfections.

This has only led me to procrastination, self doubt and burnout.

I went from this to having a more ‘gray mindset‘ which is;

“I do things to the best of my abilities – and the Imperfections are part of the learning process”

I could only learn this when I had to deal with “missing a day” of drawing here and there,

Which then forced me to adapt to reality and work with it, instead of working against it.

3. To Make more Art

This is pretty simple.

• If I draw everyday, I make more art than not.

• Thus making me a prolific artist who makes more stuff and learns fast because you have faster feedback loops.

Which leads to better quality. And that’s the next reason.

4. I make More Quality Art

• When you learn fast, your quality of work is high

And the chances of making 5 high quality pieces is high when you make 50 drawings as opposed to 10.

More quantity leads to better quality

5. Be ok with Failure

You don’t draw masterpieces everyday when you are drawing daily.

It involves making good art on some days and bad art on the other.

Thus forcing you to live with your bad art instead of quitting

Better yet, it made me a better person who would learn from their failures instead of despising it.

(It’s amazes me to know I think this way now)

I’ve allowed myself to fail, which made me succeed more often.

6. Drawing is my Duty

I see art as my way of being “useful” in this world.

By making work that would educate or inspire people in the directions they deem right.

And this sense of duty has given me the ability to get through some hard times.

Not passion. Duty.

Passion comes and goes. Duty stays on.

So these are my personal reasons to draw.
