1) 30 Days of Drawing the same thing for a year
As you probably know (or didn’t know) – I’m drawing the same thing everyday for a year to explore the aspects of depth, boredom and mastery.
And I’m 30 days in. ✏️
I’ve been drawing my OC (original character) Kumar, and I’m done with the first month’s theme of dynamic expressions 🤪
Here’s the collage of all drawings 👇
I’ve started the second theme which I think I’ll be doing for more than 30 days (not sure) which is: Body Poses 🕺
Here’s the first drawing from that…
Lessons so far:
• Boredom has kicked in
• Time to feel it and explore depth
• Need to remind myself of the WHY to continue doing this.
• The routine hasn’t stabilised yet, so need to find a time in the day that’s static to do this.
2) Rule of 5 (ones)
I’ve come up with this “Rule of 5 Ones” to get better at drawing (inspired by a business rule similar to this)
Here are the 5 ONEs 👇
• Pick ONE Mini Skill in Drawing to Focus on
• Pick ONE Source to study that from
• Make ONE drawing a Day
• Give yourself ONE Feedback each day to apply the next day
• Do it for ONE Hundred Days.
(Bonus: Do it for a year to master it)
Tips:
• The skill should be small, not broad (Eyes vs the whole head)
• Feel free to do more than one drawing
• DO NOT pick more than one Source (an artist, book or course) to learn from. Commit to a master.
• 100 Days is the Minimum – feel free to do it for a year or more.
Do a series of these mini skills – You’ll get good at drawing!! Or anything for that matter. 😌
3) Favourite Quote of the Week
“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
– Bruce Lee
That’s it.
I’ll see you again next week 🙂
Best,
Kesh.
